Summer Leaders

The Summer Leaders Experience is an immersive experience in cadet life for prospective candidates. Two one-week sessions are held each June for high school juniors transitioning to senior year. The SLE application portal is open each year from January 15 – March 31 for high school juniors. The SLE application is a two part process that starts with filling out the Candidate Questionnaire (CQ).  Click here to learn more.

The Summer Leaders Experience is an opportunity for cadet candidates to come and essentially live the life of a cadet for about a week. And we'll introduce them to the three pillars of the Academy, which are military, physical, and academic. Throughout the week, they'll be able to go to a few different academic workshops and meet a lot of the instructors here at the Academy.

They also take the Candidate Fitness Assessment, which is required on all applications to West Point. And on the last day, we'll be having a culminating challenge, where they'll get a lot of exposure with different types of weapons systems and military techniques. And then we'll have a big barbecue afterwards and celebrate the week being over. Overall, it's for them to get an idea if it's something they'd be seriously interested in as they enter their senior year of high school.

When I came to SLE, my squad leader was just a phenomenal individual-- great person, incredibly smart, confident in pretty much everything he had ever done. And my day-to-day interaction with him convinced me that I could be like this guy in three or four years. And that's what I want.

I came here. And I've been here for three years now. I can honestly say it's the best thing I've ever done in my life.

I've had incredible opportunities. I've been abroad multiple times. I've trained with some incredible military equipment and gained tons of new skills and knowledge. It's been an amazing experience for me.
